How to Get More Traffic to Your Whatnot Show: Cindy’s Title Formula and Listing Optimization Guide

Learn how to write searchable Whatnot show titles, optimize product listings, preload inventory, and help more buyers discover and bookmark your live shows.

Updated July 2026

Watch the video above to follow along as I schedule a Whatnot show, create an optimized product listing, number my inventory, and prepare my show for buyers.

One of the biggest mistakes I see new Whatnot sellers make happens before they ever press the Go Live button.

They schedule a show with a title like:

  • Closet Cleanout

  • Random Pallet Pulls

  • Saturday Night Show

  • Come Hang Out

  • Cute Clothes

Those titles might describe the show to you, but they don’t tell a potential buyer why she should click.

Your Whatnot show title is one of the first things a buyer sees. It helps people understand what you’re selling, which brands they can expect, and why they should bookmark your show.

Your listings matter too.

A buyer may discover one of your products while searching Whatnot before your show begins. If the listing has a vague title, no useful details, and a random photo, she has no reason to stop.

But if your title clearly describes the item, the photo builds trust, and the description answers her questions, that listing can help bring a qualified buyer into your show.

Your Whatnot traffic strategy doesn’t begin when you go live.

It begins when you schedule the show.

How Do You Get More Traffic to a Whatnot Show?

To help more buyers discover your Whatnot show:

  1. Schedule the show in advance.

  2. Use a descriptive, keyword-focused show title.

  3. Name the main product category and strongest brands.

  4. Include one honest traffic hook.

  5. Select the most accurate category and tags.

  6. Upload a clear vertical thumbnail.

  7. Preload at least 20 to 30 quality listings when possible.

  8. Optimize each listing’s title, photo, description, condition, and shipping profile.

  9. Number your listings so buyers can request products easily.

  10. Share the show link early so people can bookmark it.

Whatnot confirms that descriptive titles and relevant keywords can help buyers find products in search. Scheduling early also gives you time to add listings, promote the show, and collect bookmarks before you go live. Review Whatnot’s current show-scheduling guidance.

What Is the Whatnot Traffic Title Formula?

My simple Whatnot Traffic Title Formula is:

What You’re Selling + Top Brands or Buyer Details + Reason to Join

In a more detailed format, it looks like this:

[PRODUCT CATEGORY] | [TOP BRANDS, SIZES, OR STYLES] | [HONEST TRAFFIC HOOK]

The title should answer three questions:

  1. What are you selling?

  2. Is it relevant to me?

  3. Why should I join this particular show?

You don’t need to fit every product, brand, and promotion into the title.

Choose the information that gives the right buyer the clearest reason to click.

Part One: Tell Buyers What You’re Selling

Start with the main category or theme.

Examples include:

  • Women’s Clothing

  • Plus-Size Fashion

  • Vintage Home Décor

  • Premium Activewear

  • Pokémon Singles

  • Luxury Handbags

  • Kids’ Back-to-School Clothing

  • Beauty and Skincare

  • Reseller Bundles

  • New With Tags Fashion

Avoid making buyers guess.

“Saturday Night Fun” may sound energetic, but it doesn’t tell a shopper whether you’re selling clothing, cards, toys, or kitchen products.

You can still bring your personality into the title—but clarity should come first.

Part Two: Add Your Strongest Search Details

Next, include the brands, sizes, product types, or styles your ideal customer is most likely to search for.

For a clothing show, that might include:

  • Free People

  • Madewell

  • Anthropologie

  • Torrid

  • Lululemon

  • Sizes 1X–3X

  • New With Tags

  • Denim

  • Fall Layers

For collectibles, it might include:

  • Pokémon

  • Funko

  • PSA

  • CGC

  • Vintage Star Wars

  • Sports Cards

  • Sealed Products

You don’t need to list every brand in the show.

Choose two or three of the most recognizable or desirable brands you are actually selling.

Whatnot prohibits adding popular but irrelevant keywords simply to gain search visibility. Every brand or product term in your title must honestly represent what buyers will find in the show. Read Whatnot’s current listing guidelines.

Part Three: Give Buyers a Reason to Join

The final part of the formula is your traffic hook.

An honest traffic hook could be:

  • $1 Starts

  • Everything Under $25

  • New With Tags

  • Plus Sizes 1X–3X

  • First Show

  • Free Gift

  • Reseller Deals

  • Rare Finds

  • Closet Clearout

  • Buyer Giveaway

  • Luxury Under $100

  • Last-Chance Inventory

Only advertise an offer you’re prepared to honor.

Don’t place “$1 Starts” in the title if most items won’t start at $1. Don’t advertise a giveaway unless you’ve planned and budgeted for one.

The goal isn’t to trick someone into clicking.

The goal is to attract buyers who will be happy they entered.

The optimized version tells buyers what they will find without becoming misleading or stuffed with unrelated keywords.

How to Schedule an Optimized Whatnot Show

The Whatnot interface may change over time, but the basic process remains similar.

Step 1: Open Seller Hub

From the Whatnot app or website, open Seller Hub.

On desktop, select Shows and then Schedule a Show.

Step 2: Add Your Optimized Show Title

Use the Traffic Title Formula:

[PRODUCT CATEGORY] | [TOP BRANDS OR DETAILS] | [TRAFFIC HOOK]

Before publishing, ask:

  • Is the main category clear?

  • Did I include my strongest relevant keywords?

  • Is every brand actually in the show?

  • Did I give buyers a real reason to join?

  • Can someone understand the show in a few seconds?

Step 3: Choose the Date and Time

Schedule the show far enough in advance to promote it, preload inventory, and collect bookmarks.

If you’re planning a series or challenge, add a consistent identifier when space allows:

  • Day 1 of 30

  • Episode 1

  • Monday Night Plus-Size Show

  • Weekly Reseller Deals

Keep the product details near the beginning of the title. Don’t make buyers read through the series information before learning what you sell.

Step 4: Select the Most Accurate Category

Choose the category that best represents the majority of your inventory.

Whatnot currently notes that shows appear in their selected category, so selecting the wrong one can put your show in front of the wrong audience.

If you’re selling multiple product types, choose the strongest primary category rather than a category that happens to have more viewers.

Step 5: Choose Accurate Tags

Select tags that genuinely describe your show.

Depending on your category and the options available, tags might include:

  • New With Tags

  • Plus Size

  • Curated Show

  • $1 Starts

  • Pallet Pulls

  • Vintage

  • Luxury

  • Reseller Inventory

Tags are another discovery signal. Use them to reinforce your title, not to reach an unrelated audience.

If a primary brand field is available, select it only when that brand meaningfully represents the show.

Step 6: Upload a Clear Show Thumbnail

Your thumbnail and title work together.

The title explains what’s happening. The thumbnail helps the buyer notice it.

Whatnot currently recommends a vertical 9:16 thumbnail at 1080 × 1920 pixels.

Your thumbnail should:

  • Show the type of inventory you’re selling

  • Use a clear, well-lit image

  • Include only a few readable words

  • Match the show title

  • Stay consistent with your brand

  • Remain readable on a phone

Avoid screenshots filled with tiny text.

Use your own photo of the actual inventory whenever possible. If you use a brand or stock image, make sure you have permission and that it accurately represents what buyers will see.

Don’t download a random image from Google simply because it looks good. An attractive thumbnail isn’t worth creating copyright or buyer-trust problems.

Step 7: Review Your Shipping Settings

Confirm who pays for shipping and whether your shipping options are correct before publishing the show.

Whatnot notes that show-level shipping settings can’t be changed after the show begins, so this should be part of your pre-show review. Review Whatnot’s current shipping-setting instructions.

Step 8: Publish and Share the Show

Once the show is published:

  • Copy the show link.

  • Share it on social media.

  • Add it to your email or text community.

  • Mention it during earlier live shows.

  • Invite people to bookmark it.

  • Add products so buyers can browse before the show.

When someone bookmarks a Whatnot show, it is added to their saved content and they can receive a notification when it goes live.

Why You Should Preload Your Whatnot Listings

Your show title gets buyers into the room. Your product listings give them a reason to bookmark, browse, bid, or return.

Preloaded listings allow buyers to see what you plan to sell before the show begins.

They also make your live show easier to manage because you aren’t creating every item from scratch while trying to talk to your audience.

For beginner sellers, I recommend focusing on your first 20 to 30 products.

You can add more, but 20 detailed listings are more valuable than 100 listings called “Item,” “Item 2,” and “Cute Top.”

Preloading your best products can help you:

  • Create interest before the show

  • Attract product-specific searches

  • Collect advance bids when available

  • Answer buyer questions before going live

  • Keep your show organized

  • Run products faster

  • Reduce technical stress

  • Build buyer trust

Quality Listings Versus Temporary Listings

When adding products to a Whatnot show, you may be given the option to create a Quality Listing or a Temporary Listing.

Quality Listing

A Quality Listing includes:

  • Product photos

  • A descriptive title

  • A description

  • Category details

  • Condition

  • Pricing

  • Shipping information

  • Other relevant product attributes

Quality Listings are reusable, can remain available after the show, and are designed to be more discoverable in Whatnot search.

Temporary Listing

A Temporary Listing contains only basic information and is intended for products you need to create quickly. It is attached to the show and expires when the show ends.

Temporary listings may be helpful for:

  • Fast pallet pulls

  • One-time products

  • Unexpected additions

  • Products created during the show

Use Quality Listings for the inventory you want buyers to discover, understand, and potentially purchase beyond one live show.

Whatnot removed Quality Listing Rate as a Premier Shop qualification metric in June 2026. However, Whatnot still recommends Quality Listings for reusable inventory, buyer information, and search discoverability. See Whatnot’s current product-listing guidance.

Cindy’s Whatnot Listing Title Formula

Use this formula for individual products:

[ITEM NUMBER] + [BRAND] + [PRODUCT NAME OR STYLE] + [SIZE OR VARIATION] + [CONDITION] + [IMPORTANT BUYER DETAIL]

You may not need every element for every product, but the buyer should understand exactly what is being sold.

#07 Free People Easy Street Tunic Sweater | Medium | Oversized | NWT

Jeans Example

#12 Madewell Perfect Vintage Jeans | Size 29 | High Rise | Excellent Condition

Handbag Example

#04 Coach Willow Shoulder Bag | Black Leather | Excellent Used Condition

Vintage Example

#14 Fenton Milk Glass Hobnail Vase | 8 Inch | Excellent Condition

Pokémon Example

#09 Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream | 50 ml | New and Sealed

Kids’ Clothing Example

Why Product Numbers Help During a Live Show

Add a number to the beginning of each listing title:

  • #01

  • #02

  • #03

  • #04

Organize your physical products in the same order.

Now, when someone enters your show and says:

“Can you show number 17?”

You know exactly which product she wants.

Listing numbers help you:

  • Find products quickly

  • Answer requests from the chat

  • Keep your show moving

  • Match physical products to digital listings

  • Organize sold inventory

  • Reduce confusion during shipping

Continue using the same number on the product, bag, or removable sticker so your listing system connects to your shipping workflow.

What to Include in an Optimized Whatnot Listing

1. A Clear Product Photo

Use a bright, focused photo that shows the actual item and its condition.

Include additional photos when buyers need to see:

  • The back

  • Size tags

  • Brand labels

  • Materials

  • Authentication details

  • Product markings

  • Measurements

  • Wear or damage

  • Included accessories

Don’t hide flaws or use a stock photo that makes the condition appear better than it is.

2. A Descriptive Title

Use words a real buyer would search.

Instead of:

Cute Brown Sweater

Write:

Free People Oversized Turtleneck Sweater | Medium | Brown | Excellent Condition

3. The Correct Category

Choose the most specific accurate category available.

The wrong category may prevent the right buyer from finding the item and can create problems with product or shipping rules.

4. An Honest Condition

Clearly identify whether the item is:

  • New

  • New With Tags

  • New Without Tags

  • Pre-owned

  • Excellent Used Condition

  • Good Used Condition

  • Vintage

  • Damaged or flawed

Use the condition options provided by Whatnot and explain important wear in the description.

5. A Useful Description

Your description should answer the questions a buyer would ask if she were standing beside you.

Depending on the product, include:

  • Brand

  • Product or style name

  • Size

  • Color

  • Material

  • Measurements

  • Condition

  • Flaws

  • Included pieces

  • Retail price when verified

  • Fit notes

  • Care information

  • Authenticity or grading information when relevant

6. Accurate Pricing

Choose whether the product will be sold through:

  • Buy It Now

  • Auction

  • An auction with a minimum starting price

Don’t choose a starting price based only on what another seller is doing.

Consider:

  • Your product cost

  • Current demand

  • Realistic resale value

  • Product condition

  • Platform fees

  • Your minimum acceptable profit

  • How quickly you want the product to sell

If you paid $15 for an item, don’t automatically start it at $1 unless you’re genuinely comfortable with it selling for $1.

7. Accurate Shipping Information

Choose a shipping profile based on the item’s expected packed weight, including the product and packaging.

Incorrect shipping profiles can create higher costs, label adjustments, or returned packages.

Should You Include the Retail Price?

A verified retail price can help buyers understand the product’s original value.

For example:

MSRP $298 | Free People Wool Blend Sweater | Medium | Oversized

Only include the retail price when you can verify it.

Don’t guess, inflate the amount, or use the retail price of a similar product.

If the product is discontinued or vintage, focus on its actual details and current market instead of inventing a retail value.

Should You Use a Giveaway in Your Show Title?

A giveaway can give buyers another reason to enter or stay in the show, but it shouldn’t be your entire traffic strategy.

Only include “giveaway” or “free gift” in the title when:

  • You have selected the actual prize.

  • You understand the shipping cost.

  • The giveaway fits your budget.

  • You plan to run it during that show.

  • It complies with Whatnot’s current rules.

Whatnot currently allows Standard, Follower-Only, and Buyer Appreciation Giveaways. Sellers are responsible for giveaway shipping costs. Review Whatnot’s current giveaway instructions.

Avoid including a specific giveaway item in the title if you may replace it with something less valuable.

Your audience should receive what you promoted.

Five Ways to Improve Whatnot Search Visibility

1. Use Specific Product Language

“Free People Oversized Sweater” is more searchable than “Cute Top.”

2. Put Important Words First

Lead with the product category, brand, or strongest buyer detail.

3. Preload Your Strongest Inventory

Give buyers specific products to discover and bookmark before the show.

4. Use Relevant Categories and Tags

Accurate organization helps Whatnot understand where your show and products belong.

5. Avoid Keyword Stuffing

Adding unrelated popular brands can violate Whatnot’s rules and attract buyers who immediately leave.

More clicks from the wrong audience aren’t better traffic.

The Complete Whatnot Listing Optimization Checklist

Before publishing a product, ask:

  • Does the title clearly identify the item?

  • Did I include the correct brand?

  • Did I include the product type or style?

  • Did I add the size, variation, or dimensions?

  • Did I describe the condition?

  • Did I disclose important flaws?

  • Are the photos clear and accurate?

  • Is the category correct?

  • Is the description useful?

  • Is the retail price verified?

  • Is the starting price safe for my business?

  • Is the shipping profile accurate?

  • Did I add an inventory number?

  • Is every keyword genuinely relevant?

Common Whatnot Title and Listing Mistakes

Writing a Vague Show Title

Buyers shouldn’t have to enter the show to learn what you sell.

Adding Too Many Brands

Choose your strongest relevant names instead of turning the title into a wall of keywords.

Using Unrelated Popular Keywords

This can mislead buyers and violate Whatnot’s listing guidelines.

Advertising an Offer You Won’t Honor

Don’t promise $1 starts, free shipping, or a giveaway unless it’s true.

Using Random Internet Photos

Use original product photos or images you have permission to use.

Calling Every Product “Item”

Generic listings make buyer requests and shipping much more difficult.

Leaving Out the Condition

Condition affects value and buyer expectations.

Hiding Flaws

One sale isn’t worth losing a customer’s trust.

Guessing the Retail Price

Use a verified amount or leave it out.

Forgetting the Shipping Profile

Listing optimization includes what happens after the sale.

Preloading Too Many Poor Listings

Start with 20 to 30 strong listings instead of creating hundreds of incomplete ones.

Whatnot Show Title and Listing FAQ

What should I name my Whatnot show?

Use this formula:

What You’re Selling + Top Brands or Buyer Details + Reason to Join

For example:

Plus-Size Fashion 1X–3X | Torrid + Eloquii | NWT Deals

Do Whatnot listing titles help with search?

Yes. Whatnot states that descriptive titles and relevant keywords help buyers find products in Whatnot search.

Public Whatnot pages may also appear in external search engines, but your first priority should be creating accurate titles for shoppers using Whatnot.

How many brands should I put in my show title?

Usually, two or three strong, relevant brands are enough. Include only brands that will genuinely appear in the show.

How many listings should I preload?

Start with approximately 20 to 30 of your strongest products. Add more when you can maintain the same listing quality.

What is a Quality Listing on Whatnot?

A Quality Listing is a reusable listing containing photos, a description, detailed product information, and other attributes. It remains available after the show and is designed to be more discoverable than a Temporary Listing.

Do Quality Listings still count toward Premier Shop?

As of June 1, 2026, Quality Listing Rate is no longer a Premier Shop qualification metric. Quality Listings are still valuable for search visibility, buyer confidence, and reusable inventory.

Should I put numbers in my Whatnot listing titles?

Yes. Adding #01, #02, #03, and so on makes products easier to locate during the live show and organize after the sale.

Can I use stock photos in Whatnot listings?

Use original photos of the actual item whenever possible. Only use stock or brand images when you have permission and the image accurately represents the product.

Some Whatnot categories require photos of the actual item, so review the rules for your category.

Should I include “$1 Starts” in my title?

Only if you are truly running products with $1 starting bids and are comfortable with the financial risk.

Can I edit a Whatnot show after scheduling it?

Yes. Whatnot currently allows sellers to edit upcoming shows, including the show information and schedule. Some settings may become unavailable after the show begins.

Should I advertise a giveaway in my show title?

You can advertise a real, planned giveaway, but it shouldn’t replace a clear description of what you sell.

Your Whatnot Show Starts Before You Go Live

A buyer can’t bookmark a show she doesn’t understand.

She can’t search for a product you’ve named “Item 17.”

And she can’t confidently buy something when the listing doesn’t explain what it is.

Your title, thumbnail, category, tags, and product listings work together to tell Whatnot—and potential buyers—what your show offers.

Make the title clear.

Use words your buyers are already searching.

Preload your strongest inventory.

Tell the truth about every product.

Then, when the right person discovers your show, give her a reason to bookmark it, enter the room, and stay.
